While week one was filled with non-conference contests, week two of the prep football season is all about league play with a couple of teams getting their first taste of games that really matter. Jackson starts the defense of its Western Conference South Division title against a rebuilding Shorewood squad that is looking to be competitive.

Mountlake Terrace looks to build upon its win over Lynnwood against a much tougher rival in Mariner.

Other teams have another opportunity to do some fine tuning before league play starts.

Shorewood vs. Jackson

Game time: 5 p.m. Friday at Everett Memorial Stadium

Records: Shorewood 0-1, Jackson 1-0

Last year’s results: Jackson 51, Shorewood 3

Players to watch: Jackson’s Riley Carr put on a show against Stanwood, scoring four touchdowns. Carr caught seven passes for 15 yards. Wolfpack quarterback Andy Gay completed 24 of 30 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Dempsey Brown has emerged as a leader for the young Thunderbird offense.

Breakdown: On paper, this appears to be a mismatch. Jackson returns one of the most experienced and talented teams in the Western Conference South Division. Shorewood is still trying to develop its identity. Expect the Timberwolves to coast to another victory.

Enterprise pick: Jackson 40, Shorewood 14

Shorecrest vs. Ferndale

Game time: 7 p.m., Friday at Shoreline Stadium

Records: Shorecrest 0-1, Ferndale 1-0

Last year’s results: Did not play

Players to watch: Shorecrest running back David Cannon was the most productive player in last week’s opening season loss to Marysville-Pilchuck. Cannon rushed for 37 yards on five carries. Senior running back Jordan Brown will look to get on track this week.

Breakdown: The Shorecrest offense struggled against Marysville-Pilchuck. The Scots hope to have more than 27 players suited up this week. Cannon and Brown should be an effective duo in the backfield and could take some of the pressure off of quarterback Ted Hammond.

Enterprise pick: Ferndale 24, Shorecrest 10

Mariner vs. Mountlake Terrace

Game time: 5 p.m., Friday at Edmonds Stadium

Records: Mariner 0-1, Mountlake Terrace 1-0

Last year’s results: Mariner 49, Mountlake Terrace 13

Players to watch: Mountlake Terrace’s ground game was led by Casey Ellersick, who rushed for 118 yards. Hawk quarterback Brandyn Eckart is a threat to throw and row. Mariner’s top players include senior Mychael Tuissosop and new quarterback senior Josh Thompson.

Breakdown: The Hawks must establish their running game in order to keep the potent Marauder offense off the field. The Mountlake Terrace offensive line had a solid start against an undersized Lynnwood front. This week the Hawks will be the undersized team.

Mountlake Terrace did not turn the ball over in week one and will need to win the turnoverall battle against Mariner.

Enterprise pick: Mariner 27, Mountlake Terrace 20

Edmonds-Woodway vs. Everett

Game time: 8 p.m. Friday at Everett Memorial Stadium

Records: Edmonds-Woodway 0-1, Everett 1-0

Last year’s results: Edmonds-Woodway 21, Everett 7

Players to watch: Edmonds-Woodway’s Andy Willcock is a second-team, all-league quarterback. The backfield features Jimmy Spears and Zack Berg. Everett’s Garrick Koehler rushed for 88 yards on 10 carries in a victory over Blanchet.

Breakdown: Edmonds-Woodway looks to rebound after a disappointing loss to Meadowdale. The Warrior ground attack struggled last week and will need to improve. The Edmonds-Woodway offensive line didn’t protect Willcock well and his numbers suffered as a result. The Warriors will be fired up to show that they are a better team than last week.

Enterprise pick: Edmonds-Woodway 27, Everett 21

Meadowdale vs. Stanwood

Game time: 8 p.m. Friday at Edmonds Stadium

Records: Meadowdale 1-0, Stanwood 0-1

Last year’s results: Did not play

Players to watch: Meadowdale running back Naji Moore-Taylor scored three touchdowns in a week one victory over Edmonds-Woodway. Running back Sam Werner and quarterback Dan McDonald also connected on a pair of touchdowns. Stanwood’s Brad Gee rushed for 91 yards in a loss to Jackson. Stanwood’s Clint Hepper caught a pair of touchdowns from quarterback Michael McCune.

Breakdown: Meadowdale looks to avoid a letdown after an emotionally charged victory over district rival Edmonds-Woodway. The Maverick offense can go to the air or ground with equal effectiveness. Meadowdale looks to have too many weapons for the Spartans to shut down. Moore-Taylor is looking like he is one of the top backs in the league.

Enterprise pick: Meadowdale 35, Stanwood 14

Lynnwood vs. Arlington

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday at Arlington High School

Records: Lynnwood 0-1, Arlington 0-1

Last year’s results: Arlington 22, Lynnwood 12

Players to watch: Lynnwood is led by quarterback Michael Stanley and running back Typhis Cochran. Arlington quarterback Andy Smith led the Eagles in a wild 52-51 loss to Glacier Peak.

Breakdown: The key for Lynnwood is patience and taking baby steps. The offensive line should be bolstered with the addition of a couple of players. The Royals would like to keep the high-powered Arlington offense off the field.

Enterprise pick: Arlington 40, Lynnwood 14

King’s vs. Charles Wright

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday at Woolsey Stadium

Records: King’s 1-0, Charles Wright 0-1

Last year’s results: King’s 17, Charles Wright 7

Players to watch: Quarterback Thomas Vincent threw for five touchdowns last week. Nick Swanson caught three of them.

Breakdown: King’s looks to keep the momentum after opening the season with a win over LaConner. The Knights need to control the ball to keep Charles Wright, which scored 43 points in a loss to Tacoma Baptist.

Enterprise pick: King’s 24, Charles Wright 20

Archbishop Murphy vs. Eastside Catholic

Game time: 7 p.m., Friday at Eastside Catholic

Records: Archbishop Murphy 1-0, Eastside Catholic 0-1

Last year’s results: Archbishop Murphy 26, Eastside Catholic 23

Players to watch: Archbishop Murphy running back Alex Martinez and quarterback Austin VanderWel combined for 202 yards last week’s big victory over Lynden.

Breakdown: Fresh off an opening week victory, the Wildcats appear to have the advantage over Eastside Catholic, which dropped its opener against Olympic. Look for Archbishop Murphy to establish its run game and then sprinkle in passes to keep the defense honest.

Enterprise pick: Archbishop Murphy 35, Eastside Catholic 21

Last week: 5-2
