LYNNWOOD — Tiffany Bonner, 11, of Bothell wowed the crowd with her vocal strength and wide range at the Aug. 27 Lynnwood Idol contest during the SoCo LoCo festival.

The aspiring singer picked the song, “Emotions,” by Mariah Carry, one of her idols, to show she can hit the same angelic high notes as Carry.

“It was pretty incredible to hear such a powerful voice from a little body. It was a surprise that was for sure,” said Craig Cooke of Pacific Rim Talent, one of the judges and entertainment chair for SoCo LoCo festival.

If Tiffany nurtures her voice and develops her stage presence, she has a bright future ahead of her, Cooke said.

“You never know if she changes physically how that will affect her voice one way or the other. If she can keep the range when she grows older, there is no reason why she can’t be on some big stages in front of some big audiences,” Cooke said.

That is exactly what Tiffany, a sixth grader at Bothell’s Crystal Springs Elementary School intends to do. She is taking singing lessons and writing her own music to find her own style, she said.

“I really want to be famous so I can set a good example for people and help them,” Tiffany said. “As long as they stay true to their heart and what they really believe in and believe in themselves, they can make it anywhere. And if they work hard at it too.”

Tiffany said she gets a lot of support from her parents, Eric and Lili Bonner of Bothell.

Lynnwood Idol is the first competition she has ever won, she said. She intends to save the $250 prize money and “invest it into something important.”

Prize money aside, it is the recognition from winning Lynnwood Idol she really treasures, she said. There were some really talented singers in the contest and she wasn’t sure she won until her name was announced, she said.

“Before I got on stage, I was really, really nervous. I thought I couldn’t breath I was so nervous,” she said. “I love music and I love performing so when I got on there everything was fine.”
