The Edmonds Fire Department (EFD) was dispatched to 93 calls in and around Edmonds the week of March 24-30, which brings this year’s call volume to 1,250. Medical crews evaluated 65 patients; fire crews responded to 28 incidents.
Medical Responses
Five patients over the weekend suffered from the effects of intoxication. Symptoms included continuous vomiting, stuck in the bath tub, uncooperative behavior, lying in the rain and inability to get up off the floor. All patients except one refused transport; the others were left in the care of their families.
Fire Responses
On March 26, a chain of events led firefighters to a Lynnwood business in the 6900 block of 216th St. SW. First, a fire extinguisher fell from its mount on the warehouse wall. It crashed to the floor, causing the contents to discharge, which set off the commercial fire alarm. The fire alarm brought the fire crews, who worked with an employee and the alarm company to reset the system. Finally, the crew verified with the alarm company that the alarm was reset and then returned to service.
Fire crews responded to two calls at Edmonds Community College. Both were related to the ongoing addition and remodel of Brier Hall.
The first dispatch in the afternoon of March 26 was in response to an automatic fire alarm. The engine crew investigated but found no problems.
Firefighters were summoned again the next morning and discovered smoke in the construction area, but no fire. Construction crews explained that some hanging tarps had ignited and they used portable extinguishers to put out the flames. Firefighters checked for fire extension and found none, but smoke had entered the book store. Fans were set-up to clear the smoke and Edmonds crews returned to service.
