STAFF CHOICE: MS Bowl-a-Thon
Can you spare some time to strike multiple sclerosis? MS Helping Hands (MSHH) is hosting a bowl-a-thon for people with the disease.
The Bowl-A-Thon is scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., May 15 at the Robin Hood Lanes in Edmonds. Teams of five and/or individual bowlers receive unlimited bowling for four hours, shoe rentals and lunches.

Free computer classes at MLT Library
Registration is currently being accepted for a new computer class being offered at the MLT Library.
Computer Basics II is a follow-up to the Computer Basics class that teaches mouse and basic navigation skills. In this class, the student will learn how to copy and paste, minimize and maximize windows and other basic Windows functions, how to send attachments via e-mail and how to paste résumés into job hunting websites. The instructors will also be available to answer specific computer questions students may have. To be eligible for this class, students must have taken the Computer Basics I class or have mouse skills.
All classes are free but class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Big used book sale
The Friends of the Mill Creek Library is holding its annual spring book sale from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., May 8., at the Mill Creek Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Hwy. From 2-3 p.m., books can be purchased at half price.
This season, the Friends have an abundance of children’s books, cookbooks and large print books. The prices are hard to beat; and all proceeds go to library programs, grants and furnishings. Be sure to go green and bring your own bags for books.
Local residents donate books and media materials, volunteers sort and bring them to and from storage space donated by Clock Tower Storage.

MLT Police Open House
The Mountlake Terrace Police Department is hosting an “Open House” during Police Memorial Week from 6 – 8 p.m., May 12 at the Police Station, 5906 232nd Street SW.
There will be a “fallen officer” remembrance in front of the Police Station to honor those officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Police will conduct live demonstrations and tours of the Police Station. The department will have the holding cell open and parents are welcome to bring cameras to take staged photos of their kids.

‘Find a New You!’ luncheon

Document Shred Day
The community is invited to shred personal documents from 10 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on May 15 at the Senior Services of Snohomish County Multicultural Senior Center, 11627 Airport Road, Everett. Food and beverages will be served.
Bring sensitive items to shred. Door prizes drawn every hour — a Key Bank safety deposit box, Staples gift certificate or a personal shredder from Everett Safe &Lock.
Fraud protection workshops offered at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. People will be available to review CMS Medicare Summary Notices for signs of fraud.
Dance and music at Skandia
• May 7: Skandia First Friday Dance, Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave. W, Lynnwood. May features the return of the classiest band in Skandia, First Class, to play bygdedans, plus several gammaldans tunes for the beginners and oldsters. Larry Reinert and Elaine Mathies will begin at 7:30 p.m. teaching Bingsjö polska; then Peter Michaelsen will play his favorite hardingfele tunes for Norwegian dancing. Plant some flowers for Mother’s Day
Edmonds in Bloom will host a booth at the Edmonds Family Market to welcome spring from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., May 8 at the Downtown Edmonds Farmers Market. Budding young gardeners will have the opportunity to plant containers with flowers as colorful living gifts for Mother’s Day. The cost is $8, which includes a $2 raffle for a hanging basket.
Lynnwood accepting scholarship applications
Applications are now being accepted by the Lynnwood Parks, Recreation &Cultural Arts Department for the Randy Terlicker Memorial Aquatics and Life Safety Scholarship.
Individuals, students and professionals who are interested in furthering their training and education in aquatics, life safety, or other related fields are encouraged to apply. Scholarships will be determined by the following selection criteria: a commitment to high standards of excellence, a desire to improve self and the community, letters of recommendation and completion of a written application.

‘Ask Your Legislator’ Forum slated
State lawmakers representing the 1st, 21st and 32nd state legislative districts will participate in an “Ask Your Legislator” Forum beginning at 7 p.m. May 17 at the Edmonds School District administration offices, 20420 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. The forum is sponsored by the Edmonds PTSA Council and will be moderated by Edmonds city Councilman D.J. Wilson.
Five of the nine elected officials from the three districts are expected to attend. They include Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, Rep. Al O’Brien, Rep. Mary Helen Roberts, Rep. Maralyn Chase and Rep. Ruth Kagi.
CE volunteers needed
Jackson High School in Mill Creek is seeking volunteer panelists for high school senior presentations, called culminating exhibitions.
Students present this major, self-directed project to a panel of volunteers, sharing key elements of what they have learned from their academic work, and how they plan to take responsibility for their future learning.

• Chocolate High Tea in Port Gamble, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., May 11: Experience traditional Victorian ambiance. A scenic ferry ride; then a traditional tea with tea sandwiches, huge scones, a tea cookie, a truffle of your choice, fresh fruit chocolate fondue, tea or coffee. Tea is followed by a tour of the town on your own. The cost of the trip is $65 for South County Senior Center members and $75 for non members.
