Seattle’s Taproot Theatre presents the Northwest premiere of the award winning off-Broadway musical, “The Spitfire Grill,” by James Valcq and Fred Alley.

The musical, which opens Friday, July 11 and runs through Aug. 9, is based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff and tells the story of a young woman fresh out of prison and an old woman who form an unlikely alliance to raffle off the town’s diner.

The show’s country-flavored tunes and lyrics give it a folksy feel and the show was well-received both critically and at the box office during its New York run.

The show, winner of the 2001 Richard Rodgers Production Award, is directed by Scott Nolte with musical direction by Edd Key. Performances are at the Taproot Theatre, 204 N. 85 St., in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Tickets are $18-$26 ($10 for under 25) at the box office, 206-781-9707 and Ticketmaster outlets, 206-292-ARTS.
