NW Admirals sweep New Year’s hockey tournament

The top Seattle Junior Hockey Association (SJHA) bantam team turned in a dominating performance over the New Year’s weekend.

Playing against top bantam teams from Anchorage, Fairbanks, Portland, Spokane and San Jose, the Northwest Admirals outscored their opponents by a combined 27-2 in winning all five games in their final round of Pacific Premier Hockey League play for the 2005-2006 hockey season.

Last fall in Alaska, the Northwest Admirals swept the first five games in this newly formed series.

After an exciting 1-0 win on Dec. 31 against an inspired San Jose Junior Sharks team, the Northwest Admirals put their scoring machine back into high gear on New Year’s Day and beat the Portland Junior Hawks 7-0 to stay perfect for the series and clinch the championship.

With a current record of 28-3-2, the Northwest Admirals start the second half of their Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association (PCAHA) schedule this week. As members of the Vancouver-based PCAHA, the Northwest Admirals play most of their games against Canadian teams. The team plays its home games on Sunday afternoons at Olympic View Arena in Mountlake Terrace.

Coached by Eliot Komar and Kris Wilson, the Northwest Admirals are comprised of Western Washington players who were born in 1991 and 1992. Most are from Snohomish and King Counties.
