Crusaders’ Daigneault wins three medals at state meet
Shoreline Christian junior Sarah Daigneault took home three medals from the state 2B girls track field championships May 23-24 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
Daigneault took third in the her best event, the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.95 seconds
She also placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.65. Daigneault earned her third medal as a member of the Crusaders 1,600 relay team that placed eighth with a time of 4:24.34. Junior Andrea DeKoekkoek, sophomore Laura Kredit and freshman Meesha Hoskin also ran on the relay.
Daigneault competed in the long jump as well, finishing 13th with a leap of 13 feet, 10.5 inches.
Shoreline Christian finished 23rd as a team with 10 points.
On the boys side, junior Kyle Rasor finished 13th in the 1,600 with a time of 4:58.8.
Shoreline duo wins NWAACC doubles title
Shoreline Community College’s Kari Fiske and Betty Wang captured the No. 1 women’s doubles championship at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament May 16-19 in Spokane.
Fiske and Wang defeated Ciara Schultz and Courtney Groszhans of Bellevue Community College 2-6, 6-4, 7-6, (7-5) to capture the title.
Fiske also finished third in the women’s No. 1 singles tournament.
The Dolphin women finished fourth out of six teams in the team competition which was won by Bellevue.
The Dolphin men’s team, thanks to third-place finishes in No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles, and No. 3 doubles placed third out of five teams. Spokane Community College won the men’s team title.
Shorewood girls compete at state track
Shorewood freshman Erin Johnson finished 11th in the 400-meter dash preliminaries at the state 4A girls track and field championships May 23 at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco to lead the Thunderbird girls team.
Johnson ran a time of 59.35 seconds, 1.23 seconds shy of the time needed to make the final.
The T-birds’ 800 relay team of Amanda Clark, Kaitlyn Pettersen, Jamie Carroll and Ashleigh Marchant finished 15th in the prelminaries with a time of 1:49.47. Shorewood senior Caroline Soules, who placed seventh in the high jump last year, finished 15th, clearing 5 feet.
Shoreline Stadium in running for 3A/4A state soccer finals
The Shoreline School District has put in a bid to host the 3A and 4A boys and girls state soccer finals at Shoreline Stadium in 2008-2009, said district athletic director Don Dalziel.
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Executive Board will make a decision on a venue at its meeting in July.
The 3A and 4A girls finals were held at Lakewood Stadium in Lakewood and the 3A/4A boys finals were held at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood this past school year.
“We think we have a great venue for 3A and 4A boys and girls soccer,” Dalziel said of Shoreline Stadium, which seats over 3,000 people. “We think it’s a good opportunity for the community.”
