MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Resident Amy Finley has amazed her neighbors with a very large sunflower she is growing in her front yard.

“I’m from Fairbanks, Alaska and there I grew one that was 14 feet tall but didn’t have as large of stalk as this one,” Finley said. “My neighbors have told me it’s the biggest sunflower they ever seen around here.”

The sunflower, named “Sunny,” stands nine feet, one inch high and has a stock that is eight inches around.

Finley planted the seed in May when one of her daughters brought it home from school.

“A pot of Folger’s coffee a day,” Finley said is her trick. “They say coffee stunts your growth— I beg to differ.”
