Fireworks a no-no; $200 fines in city
Just in time for the Fourth, police are reminding residents that all fireworks are illegal in Edmonds and Woodway.
The sale, possession, and use of fireworks of any kind are banned, according to a police statement. Violations are cause for confiscation and fines.
Fireworks are legal in Snohomish County, which is why businesses on Edmonds Way in Esperance are allowed to sell fireworks.
The Edmonds ban has been in effect since 1993, and punishes violators with fines up to $200. The Woodway ban started in 2000, and allows fines up to $250.

New $30,000 face for Dayton Plaza
Plans for the Dayton Plaza renovation will be unveiled at a city workshop from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 9 at ArtWorks, 201 Second Ave. S.
The city’s Parks Recreation and Cultural Services Department is renovating the plaza area at the north end of the former public works building at Second Avenue and Dayton Street.
The Plaza is located along one of the most well used walking routes between downtown and the waterfront. The renovation will create a welcoming public space along a popular walking route. The plaza will also reflect the growing arts focus of our community, providing a small outdoor venue for temporary sculptural installations.
The budget for the renovation includes a $25,000 contribution from the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation, and a $5,000 contribution from the Hubbard Foundation.

Romeo and Juliet, but newer, stranger
A contemporary, non-traditional version of Romeo and Juliet will be performed by Wooden O Shakespeare Company from 3-4:30 p.m., Sunday, July 20 at Edmonds City Park located at 3rd and Pine Streets in downtown Edmonds.

This year’s Summer Concerts in the Park series is sponsored in part by Acura of Lynnwood and Lynnwood Honda. Concerts are presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission on behalf of the Edmonds City Council and are accessible to persons with disabilities.
In the event of rain, the concert will be cancelled.
