Dr. Hsiaoyu Jiang, a local cardiologist who suffered severe injuries when the bicycle he was riding collided with a car April 9, died April 14 at Harborview Medical Center.
There will be a private family service and a public service for friends and patients of the 45-year-old heart specialist who worked and lived in Edmonds.
A native of Beijing, China, Dr. Jiang practiced with Stevens Cardiology Group, a member clinic of Swedish Heart Institute. He was on the medical staff of Stevens Hospital, where he chaired the critical-care committee.
Dr. John Todd, CEO of Stevens, asked the hospital community in a memo to remember the physician and his family in thoughts and prayers.
The collision occurred about 5 p.m. in the 11800 block of Holmes Point Drive in unincorporated King County, according to a King County Sheriff’s Department report. According to friends, Jiang hit the side of a car. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Colleagues of Jiang said he was an accomplished cyclist with racing experience.
The accident is under investigation, according to Sgt. John Urquhart of the sheriff’s department.
He was graduated from Beijing Medical University in 1983 and did his internship and residency training at Beijing Medical University and Columbia University. He completed his cardiology fellowship at UCLA.
Dr. Jiang is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and nuclear medicine. He has been with the Stevens Cardiology since 1998.
Jiang is survived by his former wife, Rhoda Chang and their son, Adam, father Wande, mother Lirong Guo, brothers Patrick (Maggie) and Wei (Ya Jun) and Chong Yuan.
