Taylor earns MVP honor

Archbishop Murphy’s Wes Taylor was named the Northwest 1A League most valuable player.

Taylor, a senior forward, along with teammate Luke Hagel, also earned first-team, all-league boys basketball honors.

Wildcats coach Jerry Zander was named coach of the year.

Archbishop Murphy’s Lisa Coate and Jamie Lyons also earned first-team, all-league recognition.

Northwest 1A boys basketball

First team: Wes Taylor (Archbishop Murphy), Luke Hagel (Archbishop Murphy), Luke Keel (LaConner), Matt Cowell (Friday Harbor), Mike Bagby (Coupeville), Dan Martin (Concrete), Allen Black (Coupeville).

Second team: John Grossglass (LaConner), Tyler Roberts (Friday Harbor), Nick Aldridge (Concrete), Jon Jensen (Archbishop Murphy), Sean Anderson (Friday Harbor).

Player of the Year: Wes Taylor (Archbishop Murphy).

Coach of the Year: Jerry Zander (Archbishop Murphy).

First team: Megan Sanders (Orcas), Lisa Coate (Archbishop Murphy), Vanessa Davis (Coupeville), Lexie Black (Coupeville), Jamie Lyons (Archbishop Murphy), Jackie Lewis (Concrete).

Second team: Krista Eknes (Archbishop Murphy), Whitney Clark(Coupeville), Kasey Swanson (Concrete), Jenole Peacock (Orcas), Katie Bassford (LaConner), Madison Judkins (Friday Harbor).

Player of the Year: Megan Sanders (Orcas).

Coach of the Year: Craig Sanders (Orcas).
