Eric Teegarden of Mountlake Terrace is challenging incumbent Kathleen Vaughn for position 2 on the Snohomish County PUD commission this year, according to the Public Disclosure Commission.

The winner of this fall’s election will serve a six-year term, which starts Jan. 1, 2007.

The Committee to Elect Eric Teegarden Snohomish County PUD Commissioner is hosting a campaign kickoff, “Celebrating our Energy Future,” from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, at the North Lynnwood Neighborhood Park, 18510 44th Avenue W., in Lynnwood. A potluck with beverages and desserts provided. Everyone is invited.

The primary reason Teegarden is running is to pursue contract renegotiation to lower PUD bills for rate payers, according to a news release. He will also work to create more incentives for conservation and distributed energy, which is solar and wind power supplied by home and business owners.

Vaughn’s second term will end in December. She is the owner of Goldmark Financial Corporation, a Snohomish County mortgage company, and co-owner with her husband of a construction firm, according to the commission Web site. She could not be immediately reached for comment earlier this week.

Teegarden is a traffic engineer for the City of Seattle and owns and operates a small landscaping business, according to Teegarden’s election Web site.

In 2005, Teegarden ran against Michelle Angrick for the Mountlake Terrace City Council and lost.
