Raising $3,830 to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s advocacy, education, public health and research programs, Mill Creek residents Robbie Burns, 16, and his mother Kim Burns Stanich participated in the first annual Livestrong Ride on Sept. 25 in Portland, Ore.
The ride raised $1.3 million for the foundation to help people with cancer.
Robbie Burns, who was born with club feet, has been cycling since he was 4 years old. Lance Armstrong inspired him to pursue road biking and to live strong. Burns is an active Boy Scout in Troop 267 working on his Eagle project to assist completing a section of the Interurban Trail through Shoreline.
“Riding the 104 miles over Bald Peak was pretty hard, but it was awesome,” Burns said. “The volunteers at the top were so helpful. It was great to meet Tyler, one of the survivors my age, and to know how important our support was.”
Funds raised through the event will support the foundation’s advocacy, education, public health and research programs.
