MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A 41-year-old Mountlake Terrace woman was recently charged for using a fake bomb to rob a bank on Jan. 6, Mountlake Terrace police chief Scott Smith said.

Terri Cardin allegedly entered Sound Community Bank, 22807 44th Ave. W., at about 1:30 p.m. Jan. 6 with a shoebox-sized box wrapped in Christmas paper, Smith said.

“She put the box on the counter and said there was a bomb in the box,” said the police chief. “She was given an undisclosed amount of cash. She left the bank on foot.”

Police received a tip that the suspect was at an Everett hotel with the money. Police discovered Jan. 30 Cardin was already in custody at the Snohomish County Jail for an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

Cardin has been charged with robbery first degree, which is a class A felony, police said. If convicted, she could serve as many as 20 years in prison.
