The Shorewood boys water polo team finished sixth out of 12 teams at last weekend’s state tournament at the King County Aquatic Center.

Shorewood defeated Curtis and Bainbridge to win its bracket, then lost a crossover match to Wilson. The Thunderbirds beat Bainbridge once more and fell to Mark Morris by one point to finish 3-2.

“We had two real close losses that were tough to swallow,” Shorewood coach Thor Tyson said. “But getting sixth after not even playing at state last year was a good showing for us.”

Dennis Maxwell was named to the all-state second team and Nick Joy was a third-team selection. The T-birds are losing five senior starters to graduation.
