When you like Chinese food, chances are you have a favorite Chinese restaurant.

You know, it’s the place where the smell of the sweet-and-sour pork gets your juices going every time, or if you get a hankering for chow mein, you can rely on it being cooked the way you like it, soft noodles with a light sauce.

Such is the case with T&T Seafood Restaurant, 22511 Highway 99 in Edmonds, next to Ranch 99 Market.

Call me crazy, but whenever I want Chinese food in the form of tofu, I head to T&T Seafood where a full and fabulously tasty dish of Deep Fried Tofu with Salt and Chili Pepper will be my pick every time.

The tofu, cut into chunks, is lightly battered and deep fried. The chef then adds sliced sautéed garlic, hot peppers and salt. The dish is flavorful. Your partner, like mine, may later complain of the garlicky aroma in the car. Sadly, it’s oozing from your pores.

On a recent trip to T&T Seafood, our party was promptly seated at a table for four.

T&T Seafood has a couple of menus. One is the “Economic Dish” menu with all items listed at $7.28. The other menu offers dishes such as crispy scallop with honey walnuts for $10.80, sautéed sea bass with Chinese greens for $14.80, and sharks fin soup with crab meat for $35.80. The specialty at T&T Seafood, as the name would suggest, is seafood. Live, crabs, lobsters and fish are in view in tanks for the picking.

We chose from both menus: the tofu (of course), vegetable fried rice, satay eggplant, sole filet with black bean sauce, pot stickers, and sizzling filet mignon with black pepper.

The fried rice, of which there are many varieties, was excellent. No greasy, oily rice here, just a flavorful dish with ample vegetables enough for three people, at least. The tofu was crisp on the outside and soft and hot on the inside with just the right amount of garlic. The eggplant and sole dish came on a sizzling plate and smelled delicious. In a light batter, the fish flaked and was cooked to perfection. The vegetables, particularly the eggplant, were tender and delicious. The filet mignon dish was savory and served with onions, a big hit with our carnivores.

Once we’d cleared our plates, it was time to vacate the table for the next set of diners anticipating great food at good prices.

Many Asian families dine at T&T Seafood and if you’ve ever been to China you’ll know that the feel in the restaurant is reminiscent of some eateries there. The décor is not opulent, more sparse and open. The din is the same.

T&T Seafood often has a line at the door during peak times. They also have large round tables that can accommodate big parties.
