Know someone who has made a positive impact on your community this year? Nominate that person for the KSER Voice of the Community Award.

The Voice of the Community Award recognizes an individual who makes a positive difference by giving voice to important issues and concerns. Nominees must reside in Snohomish or Island counties and have made their contributions to the community within the past year.

This annual award is sponsored by KSER, your local public radio service, and will be presented Nov. 7 at KSER Voices of our Community Gala, featuring Emmy Award-winning commentator, journalist and author John Hockenberry, host of The Takeaway heard week mornings at 8 a.m. on 90.7FM KSER.

Nominations must be made by Oct. 15 and will be reviewed by a selection committee of community leaders.

Bargains galore

The Peter Puget chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution is hosting a rummage sale in Mill Creek.

The sale is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 3 at a DOR member’s home, located at 15814 21st Ave. SE, Mill Creek.

Senior Center open house

The Mill Creek Senior Center is having an Open House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Come out and see their new location next to Mill Creek City Hall in the Annex Building at 15720 Main Street. Check out our new classes for the Fall Quarter. Refreshments will be served.

Garage sale for DV survivors

Sheriff John Lovick and other Snohomish County elected officials are inviting the public to a garage sale fundraising event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 3 to raise money for Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

This special garage sale will be held in the Heatherstone Division in the city of Mill Creek. Just follow the signs to the fundraiser location. Hungry shoppers can purchase hot dogs and soft drinks.

All proceeds will go directly to Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

Co-sponsors of the event include: Snohomish County Deputy Sheriff’s Association &Corrections Guild, Costco, and Soroptimist International of Everett.

Other elected official organizing this event with Sheriff Lovick include Prosecuting Attorney Janice Ellis, Clerk Sonya Kraski, Assessor Cindy Portmann, Treasurer Kirke Sievers, and Auditor Carolyn Weikel.
