Shoreline School District superintendent Sue Walker could be with the district another three years.
The Shoreline School Board voted to extend Walker’s contract to June 30, 2010 at their June 18 meeting.
The next day, Walker said in an interview that she’d accepted the extension.
The board originally appointed Walker in June 2006 on a two-year contract. Mike Jacobs, school board president, said board members renewed Walker’s contract this year rather than next to keep her on as superintendent. If they waited until next June, Walker would look for another job next year, he said.
The one adjustment to Walker’s contract was a 3.2 percent cost-of-living-adjustment for 2007-08. Walker said she opted for the 3.2 percent hike rather than the state-approved 3.7 percent increase because of the district’s strained budget situation.
Walker has worked in the district for 25 years, holding the assistant superintendent position since 2005. Before that, she was the executive director of Student Services and the chief student officer. She also spent three years as assistant principal at Shorewood High School.
Walker’s career began in 1973 when she came to the district as a math teacher at Einstein Middle School. She worked 15 years as a math teacher at Shorewood, Shoreline High School and Einstein.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, a master’s degree from Lesley College, a principal’s credential from Seattle Pacific University and a superintendent’s credential from Washington State University.
