Shorecrest seniors Jenna Walsh and Amy Roubound won three of their four matches at last week’s Western Conference 3A doubles tournament to clinch a district berth.
The eight-team Northwest District 3A doubles tournament began Wednesday at Sehome High School. The top two finishers advance to the Class 3A state championships, May 30-31 at the University of Washington.
Following an opening round victory over Lynnwood’s Julia Harding and Molly Hunsinger at the Wesco tournament, Walsh and Roubound lost in the semifinals to eventual champions Tanya Subcleff and Whitney Frank from Meadowdale.
Walsh and Roubound then dismissed top-seeded Shorecrest teammates Katherine Walsh and Michelle Alberty to reach the consolation final.
They outlasted Meadowdale’s Angie Ma and Kelsey Finzer 6-3, 7-5 May 17 at Jackson High School to secure Wesco’s No. 2 seed to the district tournament.
Shorecrest sophomore Ashley Opdyke finished third at the Wesco 3A singles tournament and was an alternate to districts.
At the Wesco 4A South Division tournaments, Shorewood freshman Samantha Lim took sixth in singles and seniors Kelle Jones and Meghan Haggerty took sixth in doubles.
