The music and drama students of Shoreline Community College perform the final weekend of “West Side Story,” May 27 and 28,

Leonard Bernstein’s brilliant 1961 musical, West Side Story, breathed new life into the greatest love story ever told, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Set in late-50s New York, “West Side Story” electrified a contemporary audience with its tale of idealistic lovers torn apart by gang violence and racial strife. The performance is based on a conception of Jerome Robbins, book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Susan Dolacky is producer/music director, Greg Morales is director.

The curtain rises on “West Side Story” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28 in the Shoreline Community College Campus Theater, located at 16101 Greenwood Ave. N. General admission is $14, $10 for seniors and students, $8 for children 14 and under and SCC students with College ID. Tickets are available by calling 206-546-4606, at the Cashier’s office in the FOSS Building or at the door the night of the performance.
