Kids fly free at Paine Field's aviation day this Saturday

EVERETT -- As many as 10,000 people are expected to attend General Aviation Day at Paine Field this Saturday.
The 16th annual event features a variety of free aviation-related activities, including free 20-minute flights for children, throughout the day at the airport.
Vintage aircraft will be on display starting at 9 a.m. Shortly before noon, the Blackjack Squadron, a group of Arlington pilots will perform with 10 to 15 aircraft flying in formation.
At noon, aircraft from the Flying Heritage Collection will fly over, kicking off a summer of free performances featuring aircraft from the collection of rare World War II-era planes that have been restored to flying condition.
Children, ages 8 to 17, can take part in a free flight on a single-engine aircraft between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The flights are hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagles Program. Seats on free flights are limited.
Inside the children's activity tent, there will be games and activities, including free arts and crafts and face painting, throughout the day. Workshops on building your own glider will also be held. And the Museum of Flight will have a robot garage, where children can create their own robots. Admission to the Flying Heritage Collection will be half-price on Saturday.
Because of the large number of people expected to attend, a free parking shuttle will bring people to and from off-site parking. However, parking will be offered at $5 per vehicle. The event is hosted by the Paine Field chapter of the Washington Pilots Association.
