LAKE STEVENS — Lake Stevens started their season out 2-0 beating both Edmonds-Woodway and Kamiak in their opening meet Friday.
“Edmonds-Woodway won the southern part of the Wesco league last year, they are a good team,” said Lake Stevens coach Brent Barnes. “It was a good win to open the season with.”
When asked what stood out about the match, Barnes said “Our seniors kind of showed the way. With (Dakota) Reynolds and Kinsey Johnson at 152. Matt Cuzzetto (of Edmonds-Woodway) is a good wrestler. That was a nice win.”
Another wrestler that stood out to Barnes was Ryan Olliges. “Olliges was pretty dominant tonight, wrestling up a weight or two at 195.”
Lake Stevens wrestles again today against Tahoma and Rodgers at Tahoma. “Both are decent teams,” said Barnes, “perennially pretty rough. It will be a really good test.”
Barnes said the team is still waiting for the football players to get back. “That will be nice in a week or two.”
