Celebrate and honor veterans and active military staff this Veterans Day weekend. Here are some of the events happening in Snohomish County.
Today
Edmonds: Cemetery tour at 1 p.m. at the Edmonds Cemetery and Columbarium, 820 15th St. SW. Burial sites of more than 400 veterans interred at the cemetery, dating back to the Civil War, will be marked with flags. The public is invited to learn and share stories about these veterans. Everett: Veterans Day Dinner at 5 p.m. , the Everett Elks Lodge, 2802 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Veterans and active military personnel eat free; $10 for others. The menu includes roast beef and mashed potatoes with veggies and salad. People are asked to call 425-252-4179 or call Carl Frisk, 425-308-6133.
Sunday
Arlington: Veteran’s Day parade starting at 11 a.m. Sunday along Olympic Avenue in downtown. Sponsored by the American Legion Post 76. More info: commanderpost76@gmail.com.
Bothell: Concert from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E. Riverside Drive. Donations welcome.
Camano Island: Buffet brunch from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at the Camano Island Yacht Club, 129 N. Sunset Drive. Veterans are encouraged to wear their old uniforms and bring photos from their years of service. Price is $8 for adults, $5 for kids under age 9. Menu includes bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, fresh fruit, sweet rolls and beverages. Omelets are $1 extra.
Everett: There will be a service to honor veterans at 11 a.m. at the eternal flame in the Everett courthouse yard, 3000 Rockefeller Ave.
Everett: Program starts at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2100, 2711 Oakes Ave. Joshua Dugan, command master chief at Naval Station Everett, will speak. A dinner will follow. The meal is free to veterans, $8 for ages 11 and older, and $4 for ages 10 and younger. RSVP is required by calling 425-252-2100. Free parking at the back of the post; rides available for veterans who need them.
Everett: Memorial Day program starts at 3 p.m. Sunday at Emeritus at Silver Lake at 12806 Bothell-Everett Highway. The program will recognize and honor residents of the senior living community who served in the military and include music, displays, awards and light refreshments. The speaker will be World War II veteran Ignazio “Nat” Gattinella, who recently was awarded the rank of knight in the French Legion of Honor. More info: 425-338-3227.
Lynnwood: Ceremony starts at 11 a.m. Sunday at Veterans Park, 44th Avenue W. and Veterans Way (194th Street SW). Program includes bagpipe music, speakers, a wreath presentation, hand and rifle volley salutes and a playing of taps.
Maltby: A “Veterans Thank You” ceremony runs 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church of Maltby, 21111 86th Ave. SE. Stop in for a cup of coffee with “friendlies” wanting to show their appreciation. More info: 360-668-3921 or 360-668-6011.
Mill Creek: Ceremony starts at noon Sunday at the veterans monument located in Library Park, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway. Parking is available in the library parking lot. The Mill Creek Veterans Monument also still has space available for engraving. More info: www.cityofmillcreek.com.
Monroe: Program starts at 1 p.m. Sunday at Monroe High School, 17001 Tester Road, and includes local veterans, Boy Scouts, Junior ROTC members and the high school band. Veterans will be recognized by branch of service. A reception will follow, where veterans will be encouraged to share their stories and record their service history in a registry for the Monroe Historical Society.
Mukilteo: Free admission Sunday and Monday for veterans and active duty military to the Future of Flight Aviation Center &Boeing Tour. The museum is at 8415 Paine Field Blvd. Boeing tours are offered on a space available basis and cannot be reserved in advance. The center is open 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. More info: 425-438-8100, www.futureofflight.org.
Sultan: Program at 1 p.m. Sunday at the All Veterans Memorial Wall in Sultan’s River Park, at First and Main streets. The program includes the Sultan High School brass ensemble and local veterans. A reception will follow at Sultan Community Center, 319 Main St. More info: 360-793-1811.
Monday
Everett: Program starts at 1 p.m. Monday at the Imagine Children’s Museum, 1502 Wall St. Veterans will be honored with an outdoor Wall of Thanks and a NJROTC presentation of the colors. The museum, normally closed on Mondays, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in honor of Veterans Day with special themed crafts and a display of model ships. Veterans get free admission. On Monday, banks, city, county and federal buildings will be closed. There is no Community Transit service on Sunday, but there will be regular service Monday.
