102 new apartments opening in downtown Everett this summer

EVERETT — A new apartment building is opening up in downtown Everett this summer, adding to the growing list of new housing going up in town.

Aero Apartments, developed by Skotdal Real Estate, will feature 102 market-rate rental apartments and 2,000 square feet of retail space, company president Craig Skotdal said.

“We’re actively seeking retail businesses that contribute to making downtown Everett a lively place,” Skotdal said.

Aero Apartments, located on the southeast corner of Hewitt and Rucker Avenues, broke ground last March. The lot used to hold a car rental business.

The name is intended to evoke Everett’s aerospace industry, much in the way that another Skotdal development, the 200-unit Library Place, is named after the nearby Everett Public Library.

Library Place, located at 2720 Hoyt Ave., opened in 2012 and is about two blocks from Aero Apartments.

The new building will also feature a 102-stall parking garage screened from the street, a lounge area with a fireplace, kitchen and community tables, an outdoor patio with space for barbecues, and a dog walk area with an indoor, heated pet washing station.

Solar panels mounted on the rooftop will contribute to reducing the building’s energy footprint, and will provide some of the power for the communal areas, Skotdal said.

The apartments will range in size from 512 to 974 square feet, from studios to two-bedroom units, with a small number of live/work loft-style spaces at street level.

The units will have wooden flooring, stainless steel appliances, energy-saving windows and doors, and secure storage for bicycles.

The retail space can be divided into two, Skotdal said. He did not disclose any potential tenants for that space.

“Personally I’d love to see a pet boutique-type store at that location, because of the large number of pets downtown,” Skotdal said.

“The only major stores for pet owners are in south Everett,” he said.

The resident dog walker at Library Place has been quite successful, he added.

The leasing office will open in mid-April, and home plans, pricing and other details will be online at flyaeroapts.com.
