Channel-surfing the vast cultural wasteland: Tonight on HGTV’s “Log Cabin Living,” an adventurous couple leaves behind the high culture of San Francisco for a high-end log cabin on Lake Tahoe.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1865, the Crossness Pumping Station, a key component of London’s new and improved sewage system, was officially opened by Edward, Prince of Wales.
