MUKILTEO — The city is looking for a new finance director to replace Scott Morgan, whose tenure with the city lasted about a year.
Morgan left last month. “We had an amicable separation,” said Mayor Jennifer Gregerson. “I wished Mr. Morgan well.”
Morgan was being paid $105,000 a year, and received a severance package of $27,072, she said. Morgan is a retired consultant who previously worked for the city of Rancho Mirage, California, for about 20 years.
“Scott left the city on good terms,” Gregerson said, but declined to provide further details.
Morgan could not be reached for comment.
Bob Champion, president of the City Council, said the council had hoped to get more information on the city’s finances, and has recently began getting monthly reports so they know the city’s cash position and debt load.
“I’m a big believer in financial presentations so the public can see it,” he said. Champion said the city isn’t facing a financial crisis but “you need to detect early on if you have an issue you need to address.”
The City Council approved hiring Renee Sinclair on July 6 as an interim financial manager. Gregerson said she will be paid $74 an hour.
Sinclair works for Prothman, an Issaquah-based consulting firm. She previously worked as finance director for the City of Cannon Beach, Oregon, from 2004 to 2013.
Her resume lists three degrees earned at the University of Phoenix, a doctor of business administration, a master of science accountancy and master of business administration.
Gregerson said she expects Sinclair will work for about three months while the city looks for Morgan’s successor.
The city has posted the job on its website. Applications are due by Aug. 9. The city hopes to have finalists selected by September, the mayor said. The annual salary is $108,291. Gregerson said Sinclair may apply for the full-time position if she wishes to do so.
