Anime, manga fest
Everett Community College is hosting a Japanese Anime and Manga Arts Festival on Friday and Saturday on the college campus, 2000 Tower St. The festival runs from noon to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Events include a drawing demonstration by manga artist Yoshimi Kurata, a screening of the anime movie “Millennium Actress” and a cosplay parade. The parade is at 2 p.m. Saturday and anyone is invited to dress up and join in. However, weapons or models of weapons are not allowed on campus even as part of costumes. Heroin film screening and discussion: The public is invited to watch PBS Frontline’s documentary “Chasing Heroin” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Everett’s Main Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. The film explores the heroin epidemic and new approaches to fighting addiction. It also showcases Seattle’s Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program, a new approach to diverting addicts out of the criminal justice system. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Susan Kingston, with the University of Washington’s Center for Opioid Safety Education, Everett Police Deputy Chief Mark St. Clair and Cleo Harris, a treatment specialist with the county.
Caregivers event: The Family Caregiver Support Program of Snohomish County presents “A Prescription for Caregivers: Take Care of Yourself” with Wendy Lustbader, from 2 to 4 p.m. May 25 at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington. Lustbader offers stories that give insight into caregiving and help caregivers feel understood. RSVP by May 23 at 425-248-5276.
