MALTBY — Investigators are seeking help identifying a dog that apparently was dumped along Highway 522, dehydrated and with bite wounds.
The dog, a female that appears to be an American Staffordshire Terrier, has “significant bite wounds to both front legs and multiple bite wounds over her body,” Vicki Lubrin, Snohomish County licensing and animal control services manager, said in a press release Friday. “The dog was found covered with a dark purple substance known as Wound-Kote often used to treat wounds on livestock.”
Animal control officers have been helping the dog since June 9, when they received a call about the animal being abandoned along Highway 522 near Paradise Lake Road.
A passerby reported seeing a man driving a black pickup truck stopped along the road.
“A tall white male with a mustache wearing camouflage pants exited the truck and threw a cardboard box onto the shoulder of the road then drove off westbound towards Maltby,” Lubrin said. “The Good Samaritan noticed a dog next to the box, stopped and then called 911 when he saw the dog’s injuries.”
The incident is being investigated as a potential case of animal cruelty and abandonment. The dog is receiving medical treatment at the Everett Animal Shelter. It is not available for adoption.
Investigators want to hear from anyone who recognizes the dog, can help in identifying her owner or who knows more about the incident. They urge people to call the Animal Control Services Tip Line at 425-388-3210.
