Assistance League gets solar-power assist

EVERETT — The Assistance League of Everett is getting its own assist. The nonprofit that provides a variety of community outreach programs had solar panels installed at its thrift shop at 5107 Evergreen Way, Everett.

The solar panels come courtesy of a $24,897 grant from the Snohomish County PUD. It was installed in November by NW Wind &Solar in Seattle. A computer monitoring system displays the shop’s daily production of kilowatt-hours and how much the nonprofit is offsetting its global carbon footprint. The public is invited to take a look. The thrift shop is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

PUD customers fund solar projects at schools and public buildings in the community through the grant program called “Planet Power.”

The Assistance League of Everett helps children, teens and families in need across the county through its Operation School Bell, Teen Retail Program, Everett Community Scholarship and Family Assistance programs.
