Marysville-Pilchuck clinches district berth in girls basketball

EVERETT — Taking one year off was all the Marysville-Pilchuck girls basketball needed before making a return trip to the postseason.

The Tomahawks clinched the final Wesco North 4A District 1 playoff berth with a 54-44 victory over Cascade at Cascade High School Friday night.

Britt Harris scored a game-high 16 points and Jessica Masters scored nine of her 12 points in the Tomahawks 18 point third quarter to lead Marysville-Pilchuck (9-5 in league, 14-5 overall).

The Tomahawks last qualified for districts in 2006 when they lost to Jackson in a winner-to-state game.

Though the Tomahawks currently sit as the Wesco North’s No. 4 seed, Martin still has her eyes set at the No. 3 spot.

Spencer Nelson led Cascade with 13 points.
