Having enough housing is the key to ending homelessness, according to local and national experts (“Experts tackle the ‘all of us problem’ of housing,” The Herald, Dec. 12). Both Sen. Maria Cantwell and Rep. Suzan DelBene have legislation in Congress to do just that.
Hard to believe it hasn’t passed yet, with the whole country suffering from a lack of housing, especially affordable housing. Meantime, a renter tax credit could help people experiencing poverty stay housed by keeping their rent at 30 percent of their income. We can help by speaking up to those who represent us at all levels, asking them to take action to deal with this challenge by passing the legislation proposed to increase affordable housing and pass a renter tax credit.
