Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet will offer a Netflix application among the thousands of apps that will be available when the tablet debuts later this month, Amazon said Wednesday.
Amazon.com Inc. and Netflix Inc. have battled for streaming-video content for the past several months, with Amazon attempting to beef up its Amazon Prime streaming service.
Customers who purchase the Kindle Fire are expected to receive a month of free Amazon Prime service, but they also will have access to Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix for streaming service.
“We’re excited to team up with Amazon to give what we think will be a huge community of Kindle Fire owners the opportunity experience all that Netflix has to offer,” Netflix Vice President of Business Development Bill Holmes said in the news release.
