Airbus’s A380 isn’t alone in offering cushy little suites on its jumbo jet.
Boeing invited the media to see a mockup of the new “Sky Interior” of its 737 jet in Renton.
We also got to look at the 747-8 and 787 interior mockups. Both have changed a bit since the last time we visited.
Boeing has expanded the mockup of the 747-8, expecially the upper deck. Colleen Rainbolt, a director of “passenger satisfaction and revenue” for Boeing, explained why the upper deck was set up with a few suites.
Some 747 operators carry members of a country’s royal party on commercial flights. Those airlines want a seperate place to put their VIP guests. The suites not only have full length beds but also give passengers a great view.
Just yesterday, Boeing announced that it had completed 25 percent of the design for the 747-8 Intercontinental. The updated jumbo jet still has few takers. It had 28 orders (8 from VIP customers) until last week, when one of the VIPs cancelled.
