The U.S. Navy announced Friday that it will name one of its new attack submarines USS Washington.
That same submarine is designated 787.
“Though coincidental, it is especially fitting that the USS Washington is designated the 787,” Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash., said in a press statement. “From the Boeing Everett Factory to the shipyards in Virginia where the Washington is now under construction, that number stands as a symbol of pride and of the strength of our state, our workers and our service members.”
Boeing, of course, builds 787 jets here in Everett, Wash.
The Navy hasn’t named a naval ship “Washington” in more than 50 years.
