EVERETT — A local insurance agency will be featured in an online commercial with Progressive, a national insurance company.
Progressive has roughly 30,000 insurance agents nationwide, but it picked McClain Insurance in Everett for the commercial, said Claudia McClain, president of the independent agency.
“We were thrilled to be selected,” McClain said.
Progressive sent its newest advertising character, the Messenger, to film the commercial in Everett last week. Arguably, Progressive’s most recognizable spokesperson is Flo, a quirky saleswoman with bright lipstick who is often featured working in a Progressive superstore. The insurer came up with a second character, a scruffy looking male called the Messenger, to appeal to people who might not fancy Flo.
“Their new character is someone who is a little less antiseptic,” McClain said. “He’s the out and about guy.”
In commercials and in real-life scenarios, Progressive’s Messenger shows up at everyday places, like coffee shops or parking lots, to spread the news about how the insurer saves its customers money. The Messenger saves enough to do things like pay hundreds of people’s toll road fares or movie tickets, McClain said.
Progressive filmed several versions of the commercial, which will be used primarily online, she said. McClain anticipates the commercials will begin running early next year.
“It was a neat experience,” she said. “We had fun with it.”
