EVERETT — A Red Lion Inn & Suites is expected to open in north Everett near Everett Community College by the end of this year.
The 45-unit hotel is a complete overhaul of the boarded-up Best Inn Everett at 1122 Broadway.
During the remodel, crews refashioned the former outdoor walkway-style hotel into a three-story hotel with a lobby, breakfast area, meeting room space and fitness.
The renovation is part of a dramatic makeover of north Broadway.
“It was a blighted area,” said Imad Bahbah, principal of IHB Architects in Kent, which did the redesign. “I know the city of Everett is glad to have some gentrification in that part of town, to bring some life back to that part of town. I know this is an important project for them and the community.”
The Best Inn sign remained outside of the hotel during construction earlier this month. Bahbah said that it would taken down and replaced with a Red Lion sign.
The hotel is a franchise and must keep to the corporate vision and rules of the company, Bahbah said. The Everett Hotel Group is the franchisee. The contact for the group has a Tulalip address.
A representative with the contractor, Grewalz Construction of Kent, said he didn’t know how much the cost of the overhaul would be until after construction was finished.
The Red Lion corporate office did not return phone calls.
The Red Lion will be the third new hotel to open in Everett in the span of just a few months. The Courtyard by Marriott, an eight-story, 156-room hotel, opened in downtown Everett at the end of October.
WoodSpring Suites hotel, a four-story, 122-room extended-stay hotel, was scheduled to open either by late this year or early next year at at 7707 Broadway, Everett.
