2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Turbo-Diesel Delivers 25 MPG

ZR2 4WD Package Adds Off-Road Weekend Versatility

The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew ZR2 4WD light-duty, full-size pickup is designed for work, play, and casual driving.

My tester was powered by a Duramax, 3.0-liter, turbo-diesel inline six engine that delivers 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the pair provides 13,300 pounds towing capacity and maximum payload capacity of 1,970 pounds.

Trailering technology offers eight available cameras offering up to 14 views, and everything you need for a long day of towing. Plus, the available Trailering App offers customized trailer profiles, pre-departure checklists and trailer tire pressure/temperature monitoring.

Most impressively, the turbo-diesel has a range of 624 miles on a tank of gas. And during my week-long test drive, the Silverado 1500 gained an impressive 25 miles per gallon fuel economy.

Silverado 1500 comes in nine trim levels, with various power plant, cab and bed configurations. Trims include Work Truck, Custom, LT, RST, Custom Trail Boss, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2.

Silverado ZR2 is most at home when it goes off-road. Outfitted with a long list of performance and capability features, ZR2 has what it takes to tame any trail. Highlights include two-inch factory-installed lift, multimatic DSSV dampers, off-road cut front bumper enables 33.5-degree approach angle, front and rear electronic locking differentials, large underbody aluminum skid plates, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires with ZR2-specific 18-inch aluminum wheels, black chrome grille with Chevy bowtie badge, and an exclusive ZR2 interior with 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment touch-screen and 12.3-inch driver information center.

Silverado, with its crew cab and rear bench, with storage underneath, seats up to five adults. The short bed has a length of almost 70 inches and capacity of almost 63 cubic feet. Features include a spray-on protector, corner step rear bumper, 120-volt power outlet, EZ lift power lock and multi-flex release tailgate.

I made use of the bed by cutting down an uprooted, 15-foot rhododendron and transporting to the local transfer station. The crew cab came in handy transporting friends to a session of the State AA/AAA basketball playoffs at the Woodshed in Tacoma and to North Bellingham Golf Course.

Interior creature comforts included leather heated and ventilated , power front bucket seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi capability, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, power windows, and a heated steering wheel, for starters.

A technology package ($2,040) adds a rear camera mirror, multi-color head up display, adaptive cruise control, Riptide Blue Metallic coat of enamel, and the previously mentioned multi-flex tailgate.

Safety and security features put the Silverado 1500 over-the-top. The list is as long as it is impressive. Highlights include automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, departure warning, auto high beams, teen driver mode, trailer blind side zone alert, rear cross-traffic braking, rear pedestrian alert, and tire pressure monitoring.

ZR2 also comes with a rear differential with front/rear selectable full locking, Autotrac two-speed transfer case, 220 amp alternator, Stabilitrak with trailer sway control and hill start assist, and hitch guidance.
