“The Daily Show” alum Steve Carrell is finding success as a lead man in NBC’s “The Office,” which is getting ready for its second season after impressing critics in its first, six-episode run.
I caught up with Carrell, who is also starring in a new movie — “The 40 Year-Old Virgin,” which premieres Aug. 19 — at an event following the official presentation of “The Office” Sunday at the TV Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.
In comparing his roles in “The Office” and “Virgin,” Carrell couldn’t help but crack a quick joke.
“One is a sweet, nice innocent guy who has never had sex,” Carrell said. “Then there’s the character I play in “40 Year-Old Virgin.”
Asked is he’s ever met a 40-year-old virgin, Carrell said, “Not that I know of, but it’s not really something you’d wear under your sleeve.”
Carrell, a graduate of Denison University in Ohio with fellow alumni that include ex-Disney CEO Michael Eisner and “Alias” star Jennifer Garner, was asked what else he has in common with Garner.
“Just our love child, that’s it,” Carrell said. But more seriously, he said, “Jennifer Garner has actually been invited back to give the commencement address, do I feel slighted that I haven’t.”
Would he do it if he was asked?
“Only if I was asked,” he said.
Would he marry Ben Affleck if he was asked?
“Ben Affleck is a very sexy guy,” he said. “Who wouldn’t?”
