2nd Anniversary Celebration Saison

My thoughts: He’s called the Candi Man for good reason. Jim Ladd, of Cascade Beer Candi, makes wonderful concoctions of candi sugars for brewers to use and he’s cooked up something special for 5 Rights’ second anniversary celebration.
For the second year in a row, 5 Rights’ head brewer, R.J. Whitlow, asked Ladd to create a unique candi sugar, or syrupy inverted sugars for the yeast to snack on, for the brewery’s second anniversary beer. After creating a strawberry-pomegranate candi sugar last year, Ladd got some blueberry extract from Woodinville’s Locust Cider to create a blueberry-pomegranate candi sugar for this year’s version of 5 Rights’ Celebration Saison.
Paired with the Saison II yeast strain, the blueberry-pomegranate candi sugar makes this version of the Celebration Saison a unique beer. Instead of a black pepper flavor like classic saisons, this saison has more of a tartness with a slightly sweet finish of grape skins, with the Kohatu hops giving it a slight hop character. It’s unlike any beer I’ve had before and it’s imminently drinkable.
Along with the Celebration Saison, 5 Rights, which was recently named Small Brewery of the Year by the Washington Beer Commission, will also have its 2nd Anniversary Imperial IPA, Lucinda’s Blueberry Blonde Ale and Kristi’s Ejection Fraction Chocolate Porter on tap at its second anniversary celebration at Sound to Summit on July 2.
From the brewery: Our 1st Anniversary Celebration Saison was such a hit, we figured why not brew a new one for the second anniversary? We asked our friends at Cascade Beer Candi Co. to help us out again and they came up with a beautiful and fresh blueberry and pomegranate-infused Belgian candi sugar for this year’s creation. The result is a crispy, fruity and refreshing delight that is worth celebrating all summer long, or at least until it runs out.
