Herald writer Mark Carlson recently went on a culinary adventure to a special dining destination, not in New York or San Francisco, but right here in Western Washington at Willows Inn on Lummi Island, west of Bellingham.
In January, the New York Time
s declared Willows “one of 10 restaurants in the world worth a plane ride.”
Carlson and his wife decided to investigate Willows with just a quick drive and a short ferry ride.
Read all about it here.
It wasn’t the cheapest dinner the couple ever had at $105 per person, plus $65 per person for wines paired with each course.
But, according to Carlson — not one for hyperbole or restaurant-coddling in his dining reviews — was blown away.
He called it “the best meal of our lives.”
He talked of swooning, giggling and even rapture.
What’s the best meal you’ve ever eaten?
And what’s the most you’ve ever spent on dinner?
Was it worth it?
