Local author Jeffrey Overstreet will talk about his allegorical adventure, “Auralia’s Colors,” and the impacts of fairy tales in literature at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mill Creek Library. Overstreet gives nods to Tolkien and C.S. Lewis in this story of kingdoms and orphans and a mysterious girl with unusual powers. Author Andy Andrews, known as “the Seven Decisions guy” on PBS, will present a daylong seminar to benefit Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle from 9 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Holiday Inn in Everett. Andrews, a motivational speaker who tells entertaining and poignant stories about events that change people’s lives, is the author of “The Traveler’s Gift.” Individual tickets for the event, which includes lunch, are $200. The Holiday Inn is at 3105 Pine St. Andrews will also speak from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. Tickets prices range from $50 to $100. The Bookworks in Marysville is going to the dogs on Saturday. Author Jessica Stone, who wrote “Doggy on Deck,” will talk about life aboard ship with sailing canine Kip McSnip. She’ll be there from 1 to 3 p.m. Randi Berger, author of “My Recycled Pets: Diary of a Dog Addict,” follows from 3 to 5 p.m. with tales of her 20 years finding new homes for discarded dogs. Profits from book sales will go to the Northwest Organziation for Animal Help in Stanwood and Recycled Pets Rescue. The Bookworks is at 1510 Third St., Marysville.
