Charm your mother with this downtown Snohomish event

The fifth annual Charm Walk is set for Saturday — but you’ll need to get your tickets fast.

Tickets are going fast for Saturday’s fifth annual Charm Walk in Snohomish when downtown stores provide charms for bracelets just in time for Mother’s Day.

Monroe also has a charm walk this weekend, now in its second year, scheduled for Sunday. Tickets are being snapped up fast and sales will be cut off May 10.

In Snohomish, 25 businesses have signed up to participate, said Rick Alles, president of the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association, which is sponsoring the event.

The participating shops include restaurants, wine shops and boutiques.

“With 25 shops, there’s 25 different charms to collect,” he said. The charms from each shop reflect something about each business. For example, a wine shop may pass out small wine glasses.

Alles, who ran a downtown business with his wife that sold Edison-style lamps, would give away charms styled like an Edison light bulb.

“Especially the kids, the way their faces would light up when they saw all the charms on the bracelet, you could see how excited they were,” he said.

The walk begins with check-in at the town’s Riverfront Gazebo, where ticket holders will be given a map of participating businesses. At each stop, the map is stamped.

In Monroe, the Mother’s Day event was started last year after a good response to a Sweet Treat event earlier in the year, said Patti Gibbons, owner of Heavenly Soap where the charm walk begins.

Six Monroe businesses are participating. Gibbons said she will be giving out silver and bronze heart charms.

“Last year, I remember some moms, dads, and kids coming, and a lot of moms with daughters,” she said. “I think everybody really enjoyed it, and I think we all got new customers in our shops.”
