Sunday is the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In recognition, the 50-voice Summer Aire choir, under the direction of Steve Torrence, plans a patriotic concert, “Our America,” at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
This is the 10th annual concert by the summer choir, which is accompanied by Everett pianist Gary Hatle.
The first half features “The Testament of Freedom,” a four-movement piece by composer Randall Thompson based on the writings of Thomas Jefferson.
After an intermission, the concert features classic American folk songs and a choral arrangement of “Shenandoah.”
“The choir is made up of music junkies — people who love to sing,” Torrence said. “But their local choirs, such as the Everett Chorale and church choirs, don’t offer summer singing. Summer Aire is designed to provide a fun and challenging musical experience and an excellent music program for the community, sung by great musicians.”
Torrence, the director of music ministry at First Presbyterian Church and an assistant director for the Everett Chorale, also is a local baritone soloist.
A donation of $10 is suggested. An ice cream social follows the concert.
