Everett Civic Music is selling tickets for its 2005-2006 season, which opens Oct. 16 with the Russian State Chorus.
It’s the first of six concerts to be performed at the Everett Civic Auditorium. Also on tap is the legendary vocal ensemble the Pied Pipers, the Saint Petersburg Classical Ballet and a tribute to big-band music.
Everett Civic Music is the city’s oldest cultural organization, founded in 1931 through the efforts of Everett’s “Mrs. Music,” Anna Rollins Johnson, a voice teacher. She was its charter president and served as an officer until her death in 1958.
Volunteers have kept the organization going over the decades, bringing the community season after season of entertainment at bargain-basement prices. A subscription for all six concerts for the upcoming season is $40, $20 for students, a remarkable deal in this time of escalating ticket prices.
Season subscriptions are on sale now, and it’s the only way to attend these concerts. Sales begin in the spring and continue until all the tickets are sold. Single tickets are not sold.
Here’s the 2005-2006 season:
Russian State Chorus, Oct. 16: One of the world’s leading choral ensembles, the 45 men and women perform works from the Russian repertoire, from folks songs to big choral works, to wide critical and audience acclaim.
The Pied Pipers, Nov. 4: The legendary ensemble, four men and a woman, have been a mainstay of big band and popular jazz music going back to 1940 when they began singing with the Dorsey Orchestra. This latest incarnation continues the tradition of performing great music from the hit parade of American music.
The Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet, Jan. 29: This touring dance company preserves the traditions of classical ballet as performed by superbly trained dancers in the Russian style of precision and musicality.
Hector Olivera, Feb. 24: The internationally acclaimed organist made headlines when, at age 18, he was named head of the Organ Department at the University of Buenos Aires. Since then he has achieved hero status in his native Argentina and a reputation as one of the leading recitalists, traveling the world with his custom-designed organ.
Franc D’Ambrosio’s Broadway, March 24: The classically trained tenor has carved out a major career as a musical star, performing the lead role in the San Francisco production of “The Phantom of the Opera” for six years. He’ll take the audience on a musical tour of Broadway show tunes performing music from such standards as “Oklahoma!” and “The Pajama Game.”
American Big Band, April. 5, 2006: Singers, dancers and the American Big Band Orchestra team up to relive the days of the big-band sound in this nostalgic look back at one of the greatest eras in American music.
