Here’s a tip of the day from your friendly Eco Geek.
Itemize your freezer.
That’s right. Take an inventory of what you have in that frozen abyss and keep it up to date when you add items it.
Post the list on the outside of the freezer — could be a magnetic notepad or a dry erase board — and refer to it when planning meals.
This does three eco-friendly things.
It saves food, which takes a lot of energy to produce, you might have heard. Less of it gets freezer burned, which means less ends up going unnecessarily to the landfill.
It also saves energy because you aren’t letting precious cool air out of the freezer while you root around looking for what you think might be hiding in the frozen abyss. Tilapia? Ground beef? Last summer’s strawberries?
It will also save you money and, in the long run, it might even save you time.
And what could be more valuable than that?
