Dyeing eggs for Easter is a time-honored tradition for many families, but what did we do before PAAS cornered the market on Easter egg dyes?
We found these natural ingredients for making beautiful, subtly colored eggs in the latest PCC Natural Markets magazine.
While your hard-boiled eggs are cooling, make the dyes by boiling the ingredients below in water. Experiment with the amount of water and the boiling time for each ingredient to get deeper colors.
Strain the dyes and add a tablespoon of vinegar to each color.
Wait until the dyes cool before plunging the eggs in. The longer you leave the egg in a dye, the deeper the color. After the eggs dry, you can rub them with a little vegetable oil to bring out the color and add sheen.
