EvCC grad Timothy Ely talks about his works Thursday

Everett Community College graduate and artist Timothy C. Ely creates lavishly painted and drawn one-of-a-kind manuscript books and limited-edition prints and has developed bookbinding tools and equipment.

His works will be on display through May 1 at EvCC’s Russell Day Gallery, 2000 Tower St., Everett. Ely will speak about his work at a reception at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Russell Day Gallery.

Ely’s works include the natural sciences, architecture and sacred geometry. His artwork often incorporates soil, sand, pigments, metals, inks, resins and wax, and reflects his love of ciphers and codes.

“Vision Passion” is the body of pastel, oil and traditional Chinese watercolor paintings by artist Yuming Zhu now on view through April 29 at Solovei Art Gallery, 2804 Grand Ave., Everett.

Whimsical watercolors by Bev Paulson are on display through April 26 at Seagrass Gallery, 370 N. East Camano Drive, Camano Island.

Paulson’s work reveals a sense of form and design, as well as a great sense of humor.

“Art at the Schoolhouse”: At the historic 1888 schoolhouse at 15806 Best Road in Mount Vernon — on the grounds of Christianson’s Nursery — art works from 20 members of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild will be on display during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

Weather permitting, artists may be outside doing plein air painting for patrons to watch.

Mike Mallory’s watercolors are on exhibit through April 30 at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.

Mallory’s paintings have been displayed at the Edmonds Art Festival, Stanwood-Camano Island, Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival and Arts of the Terrace.

Day job: Conrad Thompson kept his day job as a probation officer for 14 years. He kept taking pictures, too.

On Thursday, Thompson’s photos will be on display during the Edmonds Art Walk, a festive potpourri of paintings, sculptures, music and food where rainbow spinners mark the path for visitors throughout downtown Edmonds.

Thompson will greet visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and his photos will remain on display through mid-May at Restoration Natural Health, 549 Main St., Edmonds.

Thompson grew up in Granite Falls. In 2005, after 14 years as a probation officer for Judge Roger Fisher, Everett Division of the Snohomish County District Court, Thompson retired.

“Spring Group Exhibition” is a lineup of gallery favorites at Rob Schouten Gallery on Whidbey Island. The show runs through April 29 at Rob Schouten Gallery at Greenbank Farm, 765 Wonn Road, Greenbank.

The show includes paintings by Pete Jordan, Jarina Moss and Rebecca Collins; paintings and prints by Rob Schouten; ceramics and raku vessels by Joan Govedare, Jerry Pike and Gayle Lutschg, with silver jewelry by Barbara Mundell and Cyndi Wolfe’s handwoven silk scarves and vintage kimono and charm brooches.

April at the Museo Gallery means garden motifs, landscapes and outdoor pieces in “Promenade au Jardin,” along with a special, “Trunk Show,” in which artist Cheryl Kamera features her new scarf and wrap designs for easy garden party attire.

“Trunk Show” runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Museo Gallery, 215 First St., Langley.

A spot of tea: Diversity is key in the exhibit “10 x 10 Teapot Invitational,” in which 20 teapots show what’s possible when exploring one form and teapots range from traditional shapes, to pots shaped like a horse head, a tree trunk and a heart with protruding valves.

The show runs through May 5 at Shoreline Community College Gallery, 16101 Greenwood Ave. N., Shoreline.
