Everett resident Lance Carleton is among the 11 noted Northwest artists participating in the annual outdoor sculpture invitational May 16 to Oct. 4 at Maryhill Museum of Art.
A sculpture garden walk will take place at 3:30 p.m. May 16 and kicks off the opening with curator Lee Musgrave and participating artists leading the tour. A reception follows.
This 14th annual exhibition features large-scale works in a variety of media. Carleton is best known for his big mixed-media pieces, which feature metal configured in sometimes abstract positions.
Other artists joining Carleton are Mike Suri, whose dramatic iron sculpture “Brushing” was inspired by a tree swept horizontal by the wind; Julie Speidel, whose piece “Lakshmi” is a tribute to ancient cultures; and Gregory Glynn, who constructed “Tuft” from a Madrona tree milled into 300 2-by-2s.
The sculpture exhibit will be on display through Oct. 4. Maryhill Museum of Art is at 35 Maryhill Museum Drive, Goldendale. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 for children ages 6 to 16. For more details visit maryhillmuseum.org.
