Radiohead has released another single, offering “These Are My Twisted Words” as a free download through the group’s online store, waste.uk.com.
The group said on its blog, Dead Air Space, that it has been recording material for “a while,” and this was one of the first tracks it finished.
“We’re pretty proud of it,” the Monday post read. “There’s other stuff in various states of completion, but this is one we’ve been practicing, and which we’ll probably play at this summer’s concerts. Hope you like it.”
The group seems to like free music. In 2007, it famously released its most recent full length album, “In Rainbows,” in a pay-what-you-want scheme. The move led to widespread praise, and the group was named one of the world’s most influential “builders and titans” by Time magazine.
The latest song begins with a long instrumental intro, as two guitars play over the steady, simple rattle of drums. Halfway through, Thom Yorke’s clear voice comes in, but there’s a gentle echo placed on the vocals, as if he’s singing in a long dark cave.
The release of “These Are My Twisted Words” came 12 days after the release of “Harry Patch (In Memory Of),” another new Radiohead track, this one inspired by a 111-year-old British veteran of World War I, Harry Patch.
The group had fans pay for that track, charging about $1.64 — one pound, that is — with proceeds benefitting the Royal British Legion.
