Last week I enjoyed my first concert at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. It was an all acoustic show with a lineup that included Jonathan Russell of The Head and the Heart, Daniel Blue of Motopony, and Gregory Paul. I realized as soon as I walked in that it was one of the cooler places I have been for a concert.

Once the music started it was clear to me that this was easily one of the most intimate and beautiful shows I had ever been to. Jonathan had decorated the stage in whatever he could grab from his living room, which turned out to be quite a bit and left you feeling like you were watching him perform in his apartment. “I didn’t realize Jonathan moved into the Abbey. Feels like I’m sitting in your living room, friend” said Daniel Blue before he started his set.

Jonathan capped the night off with and amazing set that ended with him inviting other members of his band The Head and the Heart, who had been enjoying the show from the audience, to join him on the stage to perform their radio hit “Lost in My Mind” (see the video below).

On April 10th Jonathan Russell will be performing at the Abbey again. This time with Seattle singer/songwriter Damien Jurado who is fresh off the release of his latest album Maraqopa and was recently added to the bill for this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival.

Seeing Jurado and Russell perform in a venue this small is going to be pretty special and it is sure to sell out. You can purchase tickets here.
